Meet the Committee
Alex
Alex (they/them/theirs) is a fourth year Biology major and Chemistry minor from Denver, Colorado. Alex currently serves as chair of the ExCo Committee, and specializes in data collection and analysis, as well as policy and performance review. They are also in the ongoing process of learning how to run the ExCo website (it’s a struggle). Alex always seeks feedback about how ExCo can best serve the Oberlin community, so feel free to drop by their office hours if you have any suggestions! When not working for ExCo, Alex enjoys spending time with friends, playing mahjong, and working in a biochemistry research lab.
Melissa
Melissa (she/her/hers) is a fourth year Comparative Literature, East Asian Studies, and French triple major. She studies French, Korean, and Japanese. Melissa spent a semester abroad in Seoul last year. On the ExCo Committee she serves as our hard-working, ever-brilliant Presto liaison and policy reviewer. In her free time, Melissa likes baking cupcakes, playing Dragon Age, and running sound boards.
Liz
Liz (she/her/hers) is a second year from Ithaca, New York. This is her third semester on the ExCo Committee, and she is especially excited to work on community outreach. She is a Comparative Literature and Hispanic Studies major, and loves hiking, working on bikes, doing pottery, drinking tea, and making puppets.
Lars
Lars (he/him/his) is a second year from Aurora, Colorado. This is his first semester serving on the ExCo Committee, and he is excited to help out his fellow committee members and the ExCo Instructors however he can! Lars is a (soon-to-be) double Math and Computer Science Major, consumes copious amounts of caffeine, and is heavily involved with the Oberlin Student Cooperative Association. When bored, Lars is known for browsing images of Messier objects and watching vine compilations.
Marah
Marah (she/her/hers) is a first year from Jordan. She is planning on pursuing a law degree in the future, but for now she is just learning as much as she can about things she is passionate about, like music, international politics, and languages. This is her first semester as a member of the ExCo Committee, and she can’t wait to see what it is going to look like four years from now in her last semester! In her free time, she is usually explaining why hummus does not go in sandwiches (except falafel), or she is trying to convince people that Kanye West is a talented guy. He really is.
